WordPress has released WordPress 5.5 “Eckstine” version that includes improvements in three major areas: speed, search and security.
According to the WordPress 5.5 blog post release notes, the latest version includes the following new capabilities:
- Speed: added ‘lazy loading’ of images for faster page loading times.
- Search: added site xml by default (to work better with search engines and improve SEO).
- Security: Auto-updates for Plugins and Themes.
“Now you can set plugins and themes to update automatically — or not! — in the WordPress admin. So you always know your site is running the latest code available,” WordPress noted.
